Standing in the Wings was founded by Kathryn Rose in 2020, providing online drama coaching to support young performers preparing for drama school auditions during the pandemic. Our coaching offering has developed since then and we now provide LAMDA exam tuition and confidence building for aspiring performers.
In October 2022, Standing In The Wings were Finalists in the inaugural Ethical Awards in the Young Business category.
During 2023, we launched our holiday clubs in Rushden and Bedford.
About Kathryn Rose, our Creative Director
Kathryn was virtually born on the stage and grew up involved in dance, drama and music classes throughout her childhood in Bedfordshire, including three years performing with Bedfordshire Youth Opera. Kathryn completed her Gold Medal LAMDA in Acting (Distinction) in 2013.
After completing her Arts Management degree at University of Leeds in 2007, Kathryn worked professionally for over ten years as a Stage Manager in London’s West End, on UK Tours and at international venues. Productions included: The Lion King, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jeeves & Wooster and Let It Be as well as several opera festivals all over the country and A Tribute To Glee in Dubai.
During these ten years, she had the privilege of working with many directors and watching and learning at hundreds of rehearsals to understand the skills and techniques needed to create, develop and nurture both characterisation and self-confidence.
Her work at Mountview Academy of Arts (as a tutor and freelancer) and with National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) involved mentoring and coaching young people in theatre skills including Stage Management and general theatre craft giving her a wide range of skills and knowledge of practical teaching.
As an actress, Kathryn has performed locally at Sharnbrook Mill Theatre and Bonkers Playhouse, Kettering in a variety of musicals and plays including A Doll’s House, Wait Until Dark, Two Across, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Spamalot, Parade and the world premiere of the musical Cloud. She has also worked on EastEnders (BBC), My Mad, Fat Diary (Channel 4) and The Mayor of Casterbridge (ITV).
In December 2021, Kathryn created and directed Once Upon A Christmas Song for Sharnbrook Mill Theatre which won Best Musical and Best Production Shield at the NODA East Awards in the District 2 region.
Kathryn’s passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for theatre and performance continues into her coaching (and directing) and she enjoys exploring new plays and texts as well as the classics in order to bring the best out of her students in a relaxed but enjoyable and positive way.
Kathryn holds an Enhanced DBS Certificate and Chaperone License.
